Ghosts of Christmas Past

My Nonna used to make these cookies by the dozens. Baking as memory as familial history as tradition. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

Gingerbread House

One of our neighbors started a nice neighborhood tradition a few years back in which they open up their house on a Sunday afternoon and invite everybody over to decorate Gingerbread houses. Each family must provide their own house and a one bag, box, container of things with which to decorate it. When we got the invite to the first one a few years ago, we decided to not only build our own house, from scratch, but we also (insanely) doubled the recipe and therefore the size of the house. This is this year's entry and, by far, it is the most fully decorated of our houses to date. We did stain glass windows this year (next year I'm going to light it from the inside I've been discussing that since we started this), and used our excess Royal Icing to snow scape the "grounds." The party and our house is evolving into a tradition and it's a ton of fun. After Christmas we'll break the house up, peel off the candy and icing, and eat the gingerbread -- after all, it's a hard cookie intended to last a long time and it's delicious with a cup of tea in January and February.

Struck a mother load of potatoes

Blight wiped out my ripening tomatoes and knocked down the potato plants so I harvested fast and found this load. Not bad for dropping spud quarters in the dirt.

Some Sunset Shots

Monday 14 September we were eating dinner on our porch when some really loud jet caught our attention. We ran out to see because it was military and they were very low. We saw the jets and also this amazing sky. I caught the squadron against a gorgeous backdrop. They were doing the flyover for the Patriors/Bills Monday Night Game at Foxboro.

Remembrance

Today marks the eighth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington DC and the downing of United Flight 93. The below list contains the names of the people on United Airlines Flight 175. Regular people, doing regular things, on a beautiful morning 8 years ago who never came home. The list of the murdered is long, the locales varied, this is but a sampling.

May they never be forgotten, and may their families find comfort as the years go by.
